Getaway to Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah (Part 1)

Hello!!

On the 23rd of June, my high school friends and I went to Langkawi, officially known as Langkawi the Jewel of Kedah!! It was a 3 days 2 nights trip. The trip was planned one month ahead as AirAsia was offering cheap flights and we took this chance to have a small gathering before everyone is busy with their studies again. It is a budget trip so there's nothing luxury.

We managed to secure the flights (2 ways) and the hotel for RM 182.17/person (including taxes and airline card fee)!! We stayed at Malibest Resort in Pantai Cenang. I'm glad we chose Malibest Resort as it is strategically located between the airport and the town, Kuah, and all the best restaurants are within walking distance, and most importantly, it is near the beach!!

DAY 1
After we arrived at Langkawi International Airport, we rented a car (Toyota Vios - RM 140 for 3 days, and another RM 50 for deposit) at the airport. The original price was RM 160 and I think you can still bargain for a cheaper price, but instead we happily accepted it (all newbies, you see XD). We also asked a few other car rental services and they all offered the same original price, so if you are not satisfied with the price offered, feel free to bargain as there are a lot of competitors.

As the time was running late due to the delayed flight, immediately, we went to Oriental Village, where the SkyCab and SkyBridge are located. After about 30 minutes, we arrived at the village. There are shops, restaurants and lots of fun activities to participate.

We walked around and decided to have a light lunch at Oriental Cafe. And here is what we ordered:

Hawaiian Pizza with Mozzarella Cheese RM 22.90
Look at the cheese, so generous!! It is even better than Pizza Hut, Domino's and Papa John. It is 10 inch, which is equivalent to 8 pieces. And yup, the pizza was the only food we ordered. At 4.15pm, we went to the SkyCab (RM 20/person - Malaysian). But before we rode the cable car, we entered SkyDome (it's free).

Dizzy Alert!! "Rode" roller coaster in SkyDome.
After SkyDome, we proceeded to the cable car (Due to Ramadhan, the last RETURN ride is 5.45pm, so please take note of the time!). As the cable cars are not equipped with air-conditioner, it is very hot. So, why didn't we choose other days? Because on the 24th, the SkyCab is on maintenance and on the 25th we have to catch a plane, leaving us no choice but to ride it on the 23rd. So, if possible, the best time to ride the cable car will be at the morning and make sure to check their website before you go. SkyCab in Langkawi is said to be the longest free span mono-cable car in Malaysia and takes us up 708m above sea level to Langkawi's second highest peak of Mountain Machinchang. It has 3 stations: the base station, the middle station and the top station.

Breathtaking view
We skipped the middle station and went straight up to the top station as there was nothing much in the middle station. It took about 15 minutes to reach the top station.

Top Station
What do you see? Sea or sky?
We spent about 30 minutes at the top station taking photos and enjoyed the view and the cool breeze after a "warm sauna" in the cable car. According to the plan, we are supposed to go to the SkyBridge, which is located at the top station of the SkyCab, however, it closes at 5.00pm because of Ramadhan T.T. So, we decided to cool ourselves before entering the "sauna" again.

At least we are able to catch a glance of the SkyBridge
At about 5.45pm, we reached at Malibest hotel. Malibest Resort is located right beside the main road. A tall, grey apartment-look building, and beside the building, there's a "Palace d' India" restaurant, and in front of the building, there's a money exchanger booth, that's where Malibest Resort is. The reception is right inside the restaurant. To be honest, the room is way better than what I was expecting but it is a bit sticky (floor, table,...). And the best thing is our room view:

Right in front of the beach!
At 6.30pm, we went to the beach!! The sand, the breeze, the sea~ it's just wonderful!!

About 6.30 pm?!
About 7.30pm
We actually waited about an hour to watch the sunset, probably due to the different geographical location. After enjoying the beach, it's time for dinner. We planned to eat at Yellow Cafe, however, as we arrived, it wrote "closed on Tuesday", what a let down! But, it's ok. Remember I told you that our resort is surrounded with restaurants? So, we walked along Pantai Cenang Street and unconsciously, we walked to Pantai Tengah Street and we settled down on Casablanca Seafood Restaurant.

Butter Prawn RM 18
Crab Meat Beancurd RM 12
Chinese Cabbage RM 10
Roselle Flower Juice RM 4
The food are simple yet tasty and the waiter a.k.a. boss is very friendly. For those who don't know how Roselle Flower Juice tastes like, it tastes like Ribena, a little bit of sweetness and sourness and the flowers can be eaten.

The dinner was not complete without desserts. So, on our way back, we went for dessert:

"Chopped" fruit ice cream
Mango and durian ice cream (Total RM 20)
These ice creams can be found in Kai Song Fruit Stall. It says it is a stall but it is more of a shop. It is quite famous and the ice creams are delicious. They are rich in flavours. A must eat if you go to Langkawi. They also sell fruits but the fruits are very expensive. Its operating hours is from 1.00pm to 11.00pm. And again, the people there are super friendly!

As there were still some time, we went to Cenang Mall. Why? Chocolates, of course!! In a duty free state, it's a place for chocolate, wine and cigar lovers!!

One of my friends bought this. It is so cute that I have to post it. It comes in a box of 5. RM 6.90
 These are what I bought:

KitKat Green Tea RM 12.50
After Eight 400g RM 17.90
I found a cheaper After Eight another day in Langkawi Parade Mall and it costs only RM 14.90!!! I should have be more patient T.T

Apple Guava Vodka 4% alcohol RM 5.30
I recommend you to try this vodka. It is more like a fruit juice with gas and a little alcohol and it is delicious. Good for a beginner drinker. XD . And if you are curious how we open the bottle without the opener, you just have to twist the cap and it is opened.

And that's all for the first day. A bit of disappointment yet a bit of fun. Will continue Day 2 and Day 3 in another posts. Stay tuned =D.
